Welcome to RFC!

I am Tami, the Fitness Director at Ravenswood Fitness Center. I am very proud to call RFC my health and fitness home. About 2 years ago we started the group fitness and personal training programs. I am excited to tell everyone that we have grown tremendously, have many success stories, and our happy members and staff have developed some really unique relationships. My most proud achievement is the development of a strong community which has become motivating in so many aspects for everyone at the gym.

15 years of experience in the fitness and entertainment fields have helped make me a master of motivation, leadership, and communication. My specialty is health and fitness lifestyle coaching for people who aim to feel good, look good, and want to start living healthy. I also teach in the Physical Education Department at Depaul University, have a B.S. Management degree from Roosevelt University, and hold certifications in Group Fitness, Personal Training, Nutrition, Kickboxing, Stott Pilates, TRX Suspension Training, and CPR. My top training formats are: core, cardio, and trx training.

My biggest pride lies behind helping everyone feel good and look good! This is my passion. So be assured that when you train at RFC, you will only be trained by the best! You will be encouraged, challenged, and supported, in a non-judgemental environment. I look forward to meeting you!

PERSONAL TRAINING PHILOSOPHY

At RFC, you will get a well-rounded health and fitness prescription. It is important to us that you utilize all the opportunities at the club to reach your fitness and wellness goals. Thatʼs why your personalized program will include instruction on the best way you can eventually exercise on your own. We encourage all members to utilize the  cardiovascular equipment, cybex machines, free weights, and all the FREE group fitness classes!

Whether you desire weight loss, nutrition counseling, technique advancement, sport-specific training, or are a beginner to health and fitness, together we will create a great training experience customized just for you! We also offer personalized one-on-one sessions for TRX Suspension Training, Yoga, Pilates, Boxing, Dance, and Fitness for beginners! There are many options to help keep your experience fun and exciting! We want to see you succeed!

Here is how to start! 

1) Think about  ALL of your health and fitness goals. Whether long-term or short-term, if you are ready to make the commitment to yourself, then you ARE ready to train!

2) Contact Tami via email ravenswoodgroupfitness@yahoo.com and together we will determine if Personal Training is right for you now.

3) You will be sent all necessary paperwork to get started and matched up with a Trainer!

4) Your trainer will contact you so both of you can set up a schedule and decide how many sessions you might need to achieve your goals.

5) A 1st payment is DUE on the 1st training day. You have 2 choices: Pay TOTAL due OR split your balance into 3 payments which can be paid over the time period you decide to train. You will have 3 months to use your training package at RFC.

6) All packages are valid for 90-day period from Date of Purchase.

 


TRAINING STAFF


Master Trainers

Katy Kempen

is an NPTI certified Personal Trainer that has enjoyed working with individuals over the past ten years. She excels at helping clients create a healthy balance between strength and endurance training. Katy is also a professional dancer with the Joel Hall Dance Company. She always brings cutting edge fitness and is known for her intense and challenging workouts.

Will Carmichael

brings a “unique but effective” approach to personal training. He has an Exercise Science degree from Lewis University, an extensive background in Asian Martial Arts, and is a certified Personal Trainer though NASM and LFPA. Will has been training clients since 2002 and specializes in functional strength training, weight loss coaching, conditioning exercises, flexibility, and corrective posture exercises.

Core Training Class Instructor

Lisa Hunter

has been in the fitness industry for over 20 years, and has an extensive background in dance and theater. Lisa believes that focus, concentration, and dedication are the key to lasting results. Her training style focuses on functional training, core strength, balance and flexibility, and a well rounded strength training routine. Lisa specializes in training beginners, teens, and women over thirty. She is an ACE certified Personal Trainer with specialty certifications in Pre/Post Natal, Water Fitness, and CPR.

YOGA INSTRUCTION

Meridee Hodges

has been practicing yoga for over 15 years and as of 2009, has become a certified, registered Hatha Yoga Instructor. Her belief is that yoga is for everyone - no matter your age or physical abilities, yoga has beneficial affects . Her approach to teaching is to create a nurturing space with music and incense, focusing on breath-work as well as a meditative, and positive attitude towards a gentle style of yoga.

Joie Mucha

is an advocate for alternative healthcare. She has studied Western and Eastern Herbalism, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and nutrition. Joie has certifications in Medicinal Herbalism, Hatha, and Prenatal Yoga. Since 1998, Joie has also studied various styles of fitness including weight training, boxing, kickboxing, and pilates. Her vast yoga background includes: Hatha, Anusara, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Burmese Letha, Prenatal, and childrenʼs Yoga. She focuses on the whole person to help each individual discover the mind-body-soul connection.

Cindy Huston

has accredited 15+ years of teaching and choreography experience. She is also a Reiki Master, Movement Instructor NCBTMB Certified in Massage & Bodywork, and is a licensed massage and Asian Body Therapist and graduate of Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Her modalities include Thai, Shiatsu, Tui Na (Acupressure), Deep Tissue/Trigger Point, and Swedish/Circulatory massage. She graduated with a BA Dance degree from University of Iowa and has years of performance experience. Cindy thrives to creatively continue exploring the body potential to naturally heal and loves to explore all traditional and non-traditional forms of movement.

DANCE INSTRUCTION

Michelle Scurlock's

passion for dance, fitness, and health has blessed her with a booming career! Michelle has been teaching a variety of dance classes in the Chicago area for the past four years. Michelle's goals in every fitness class are to create a fun, safe, and challenging class that will have you begging for more! In addition to instructing, Michelle dances professionally for several modern dance companies in Chicago. She cannot wait to get your body moving!

Melissa Calmes

is a licensed Zumba Instructor. She has been a participant in various aerobic formats for many years and always knew she wanted to teach. She found Zumba a few years ago and knew instantly she wanted to become an Instructor. Her classes are very energetic and combine Latin and International dance rhythms with traditional fitness moves. The key to her classes is to just keep moving, smile, and make the moves your own!

Phaedra Darwish

has a more traditional background in ballet, tap, and jazz, however, she fell into bellydance after studying different types of ethnic dance from bachata to Bollywood here in Chicago, and was mesmerized by it. Since beginning this journey, she has studied with many of the foremost Raqs Sharki masters, such as Tito, Yousry Sharif, and Mahmoud Reda. She now regularly performs and teaches workshops and classes in Chicago, hoping to spread enthusiasm for the dance as more and more people get acquainted with its health benefits and enchanted by its beauty.

PILATES INSTRUCTION

Janine RIcker

has been teaching fitness classes since 1996. Upon graduation from Illinois State University in 2005 with a B.A. in Tourism & French, she attended Pilates, Spa, & Detox School at Mandara Spa in London, a global spa management company originally founded in Bali, the pioneer of the tropical Asian spa experience. Soon after she became the Fitness Director on-board Norwegian Cruise Line in Holland, Germany, and the Hawaiian Islands. Janine also attended Stott Pilates School here in Chicago under one of the world's best instructors in the field. She is excellent at creating a customized Pilates experience for all levels with this training. Currently, she instructs the Balanced Body class here at the Carlton Club every Wednesday at 5:35pm. She has a clear passion for helping others through fitness, as well as constantly learning in her field to better herself and other peoples’ lives.

Paula Nixon

cheerfully leads fun, safe fitness classes in Chicago gyms & the great outdoors. She has shared her passion for pilates mat, yoga, spinning, ultimate frisbee & more for 10 years. Fully certified with a diverse educational profile, Paula orchestrates a structured, balanced & challenging approach to exercise. Briefly, her philosophy of physical movement centers on the nexus of connections linking the mind & body. Equally comfortable with group exercise and private training, she enjoys guiding people to achieve their own individual fitness goals, leading to better postural awareness, more efficient movement patterns and overall optimal health.

Core Training Class Instructor

Nicole Gutierrez

first became a FitStart Coach at her local gym to help guide and inspire others who felt the need to make a positive life change. Her personal journey began in 2002, after giving up her 16 year dancing career, found herself nearly 100lbs overweight and in a physical, mental, and emotional rut. Knowing she needed a catalyst for change she decided to turn to the world of pageantry for external motivation. Intense training for the competition lead to a complete make-over, both emotional and physical. Today she uses her Fitness experiences and BA Psychology degree to help clients break through emotional and mental barriers that keep them from reaching their physical goals. Nicole is an ACE , NCSF and ZUMBA Certified Trainer/Instructor.

As a staff, we hold certifications in general fitness, personal training, martial arts, 
yoga, pilates, trx suspension training, dance, nutrition, and CPR.

MEMBERSHIP

We recommend you join RFC so you have a permanent place to workout. However, you do not have to be a member to purchase our Personal Training Services.
